The Deadline for Parents and Students to select their Classes for Mountain Valley Middle School is February 15, 2013!
- Middle School counselors are meeting with incoming 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students this week
- School Meeting for parents was February 5, 2013-if you missed this meeting and have questions, please call the school, (830)885-1300 and ask to speak with the counselors
- All students must enter their class choices on-line at TXMyZone: https://itccsgb.esc13.net:5001/costu/zone.aspx, you will need to know your child's 6 digit student ID #, birth date, and last four digits of their social security # to access the selections.
- In addition, all students must hand in the completed Class Selection form they received to their counselors by February 15, 2013. This form must be handed in even if you entered the information through TXMyZone!
All 6th, 7th, and 8th Grade Students are required to take the following classes:
- English Language Arts (ELA)
- Math
- Science
- Social Studies
Pre-AP Courses have returned to the Middle School this year:
Pre-AP courses are designed for high-achieving students who have demonstrated advanced skills in the subject.
6th Grade Pre-AP Choices: ELA and Math only, choose Pre-AP selection if you feel your child has strong academic skill in the subject
7th and 8th Grade Pre-Ap Choices: All four of the above named required courses are offered at the Pre-AP level. You can choose the Pre-AP option for one, two, three, or all four of these courses.
*Please note that the Pre-AP 7th Grade Math selection is titled Pre-Algebra
**The 8th Grade Pre-AP Math selection is titled Algebra I. Successful completion of this 8th grade class will result in your child receiving HIGH SCHOOL CREDIT in math.
Gifted and Talented Students
Critical Thinking through Cultural Awareness I, II, and III is designed for those students previously identified as GT students and focuses on critical thinking and problem solving skills through an appreciation of cultures.
*6th Grade Students wishing to take other electives, may substitute this class in lieu of the Youth Leadership/Computer Applications requirement
**7th and 8th Grade Students may choose to take this class for the full year or for 1 semester
New Choice for 6th grade students for P.E. requirement:
Choose either:
A. Wellness-Physical Education-a PE class for students to continue to improve and develop their fitness knowledge through a variety of activities and sports.
B. Pre-Athletics-is a new curriculum offered specifically for those students who plan to participate in an organized sport at MVMS in their 7th and 8th grade years. This course is for those students who expect to participate in football, basketball, volleyball, track and field, golf, or tennis.
*7th Grade students must still choose between the Wellness:Physical Education class or the Athletics PE class
**PE is an elective at the 8th grade level as it is no longer a required class at this grade level. Therefore, 8th grade students choosing to take the Foundation of Personal Fitness class will earn HIGH SCHOOL CREDIT.
Electives:
Electives include Art, Theater, Band, Choir, Speech, Spanish, and Career/Technical Education choices
- 6th Grade Students are allowed one elective (due to the requirement that all 6th graders attend Youth Leadership for one semester and Computer Applications for one semester)
- 7th Grade Students are allowed one full year elective and one semester elective (due to the Exploring Careers semester requirement)
- 8th Grade Students are allowed to choose 3 full year electives
